* The 1/4" hex signs have a dark brown, laser-cut edge. The 1/2" rounds are precut, not laser-cut, and the edge is painted black. However, the are other optional 1/2" edge finishes as described in the images.
* All wood types are natural (not stained) except for the EcoBirch and the White-Washed options, as described in the images.
* All signs are hand painted with artist acrylic paints; Highly pigmented and have UV protection to help prevent fading.
* All Hex Signs, except the EcoBirch, are finished with several coats of quality polyurethane; Adds sheen and helps protect your Hex sign.
* IMPORTANT NOTE: These are wood signs and should be placed inside or in a well-protected place (such as a porch) outside. To prolong their life, do not hang in direct sunlight or where it gets rained or snowed on (sleet too!!) We offer other types of outdoor hexes, including an Acrylic Base and an Outdoor-Ready MDF Base.

A BIT OF HEX SIGN HISTORY
Hex signs are a form of Pennsylvania Dutch folk art, related to fraktur, found in the Fancy Dutch tradition. Being in the midst of PA Dutch country we see hex signs on homes, businesses and barns. Many folks attach meanings to the symbols and colors in the signs. We do include this information, but I see the hexes as purely decorative, or "Chust for nice" as in the local dialect. Almost all of the hex signs represent Luck, Goodwill and/or Happiness. Interestingly Hex signs are a Pennsylvania Dutch custom, not to be confused with the Amish who did not adopt the custom of decorating their barns and do not use hex signs to this day. We have PA Dutch in our blood and grew up with our Grandma and Mom speaking Dutch whenever they did not want us kids to know what they were saying. Even to this day Dutch phrases, such as snicklefritz, nix-nux, rutching around and Gott Im Himmel were directed to our children and now to our grandchildren! My kids even learned Dutch in pre-school and we can all sing Happy Birthday in PA Dutch!
